Equipping Hospitals Update: New Generators in CAR

Aug 11, 2026

Two new generators have been purchased and delivered to the hospital in Central African Republic, where Barbara May Foundation supports Dr Andrew and a team to treat women for fistula surgeries a few times a year.

The generators had to be purchased in Cameroon, as none were available locally. Together these will power the whole hospital and ensure a backup if one needs maintenance.

Reliable electricity is critical for hospital services, and to ensure women can be operated on safely during fistula camps. For example, constant monitoring is required for women who’ve had anaesthesia for surgery, and even simple things like lighting makes a big difference for the surgeon and support team.

In Australia, we take reliable power for granted – but these new generators are a huge blessing for the hospital staff and patients in Galo.

Thank you to everyone who gave to our Christmas Appeal last year! This is possible because of your generosity.
