Barachi's Journey to Healing
Fistulas are devastating injuries that women can suffer during childbirth if they do not have access to maternity health services.
This International Day to End Obstetric Fistula, we want to share with you Barachi’s story.
Barachi was living in the far west of Tanzania when she was pregnant. Tragically, after days of labour, she gave birth to a stillborn child. She also suffered an obstetric fistula injury.
Since her husband had divorced Barachi, her brother took her into his compound, where she lived, digging on the small substance farm they owned, in isolation for 43 years.
We met Barachi in April, when she came to Kivulini Maternity Centre to finally be treated for her fistula.
Dr Andrew Browning AM said Barachi is now well on her way to being cured. We are so pleased to be able to share this news with you.
Your donations and support made it possible for Barachi to hear about treatment, make her way to the hospital, and receive surgery all at no cost. Thank you, deeply, for your support.
