Brad Baker
Brad Baker is an Industrial Designer and Project Manager whose professional experience includes 30 years as the Exhibition Development and Design Manager at Sydney’s Powerhouse Museum, followed by a similar role at the Museum of Australian Democracy in Canberra. He has also worked as a retail design consultant, university lecturer, and freelance Project Manager.
This diverse background has equipped Brad with expert knowledge of new technologies, building and construction, coordination of complex teams, and negotiating agreements with multiple countries, Government Departments, and corporate entities. These skills have been applied in more than a dozen humanitarian missions that Brad and his wife Kareena, a midwife and registered nurse, have been involved in since 2009 – most of them with the Barbara May Foundation.
Since meeting Dr Andrew Browning in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia in late 2009, Brad and Kareena have been inspired by the life-changing work of the Barbara May Foundation. They have witnessed first-hand the saving of many mothers’ and babies’ lives (and often quite miraculous achievements that are clearly the grace of God in action) – something they never take for granted. As a wise pastor once said to them at the beginning of their mission work, “If you want to follow God’s will, seek where He is working and join in.” That sentiment beautifully summarises the work of the Barbara May Foundation and the many staff and volunteers it supports.
Brad and Kareena have had the privilege of working with the Foundation in remote Motta, Ethiopia; in the planning and development of Vision Maternity Care Hospital in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia; and in the planning, staffing, training, and operational support of Kivulini Maternity Centre in Arusha, Tanzania. As Ambassadors, they continue to offer their time and resources both in Africa and in Australia, assisting with fundraising and promoting the outstanding work of the Barbara May Foundation.
