Our Team Fundraising in Africa

Oct 27, 2017

Thank-you to all our supporters of the Mt Kilimanjaro Trek for Maternal Health. In a show of incredible support from you, we raised $60,000 which will go towards our projects in Africa.

What an adventure it was! We are hoping to return in 2019 with Dr Andrew Browning leading the trek. As we can only take 12 people – we are asking for expressions of interest. I can’t wait to go back – it really is a life-changing experience! A big thank-you to Huma Challenge and the African Walking Company who made our trip so memorable. We would also like to thank His Excellency Mark Sawers, the Australian Ambassador to Ethiopia for officiating at the opening of the new Vision Maternity Care Hospital in Barhirdar. It was a wonderful and happy occasion. Finally, a most inspiring part of our trip was having morning tea with Catherine Hamlin AC at the Hospital by the River in Addis Ababa. It was very humbling to meet one of the truly great women of the world. She is great supporter of Valerie’s and Andrew’s work. At the end of the day – we are all working to the same end – that is dignity and safety in childbirth, and access to safe childbirth for every woman, regardless of race, religion or financial capacity. And with your help – we are making great progress.

A huge thank-you to Huma Challenge who organised the BMF trip to Kilimanjaro. Great planning and support the whole way and we are looking forward to partnering with them again in 2019.

Thank-you
