Meet Birtukan, who lives outside Barhirdar. During her fifth pregnancy her baby was dangerously small. Thankfully, she had been attending the clinic in the BMF sponsored hospital in town.
During this time, severe fighting broke out around her village as part of a protracted conflict where hundreds were killed by armed forces. With transport cut off Birtukan was in early labour. She walked through the night with armed forces around, desperate to get help to deliver her baby safely. She made it to the hospital in time to be cared for appropriately and a live baby girl was delivered by our dedicated staff, who fearlessly manned the hospital during this dangerous time.
